ETA Erie: 2 p.m.

I will also be posting an interview with Richard Gorman, who owns the Mystery Lovers Bookshop with his wife, Mary Alice, later tonight! He has some interesting things to say about the state of bookselling and how to become a successful novelist.

A little more background?

Sure.

It was a long road to becoming a published novelist. A long, desolate, lonely road. And I got lost a couple times…

At Kent State, I hosted an un-watchable late-night TV show with comic Mike Polk.

After graduation, I thought I wanted to direct movies.

And there was this time I made out with a dude in front of the Today Show (inspiring an episode of Will & Grace and grossing out Matt Lauer).

A little bad acting…

…before finding my groove, writing for Cleveland’s two alternative weeklies. Until, that is, I wrote an article about a state senator using his campaign cash to take his girlfriends to Ohio State games. Corporate spiked it for fear of a lawsuit. I posted it on a blog, anyway, and, in short order the state senator dropped out of politics. Somewhere in there, I was fired.

Oh, and there was also this time I met J.D. Salinger…

The misadventure begins Friday!
